Campgrounds

We’ve stayed at some beautiful campgrounds along the way. Due to refrigeration problems, the RV had to have electricity each night to keep the salmon frozen. Therefore, we stayed in commercial campgrounds.

Bugs

As our trip progressed, the bugs seemed to multiply. Clean windows lasted for a few miles. Sometimes the rain showers helped, but often we used elbow grease to get rid of the pesky creatures.

Pipeline

Here are different views of the pipeline which were taken from the RV as we went down the road.

Fishing for Salmon

We spent 2 days fishing for salmon in the Klutina River at Copper Center, Alaska. Here’s the happy fisherman. Fresh fish is delicious.

Lots of Fish

The 3 fish that we caught weighed 53 pounds. We had it frozen and shipped to Lakewood.

Filleting the Fish

Back at the Dock

This is one heavy fish!

Knife

A sharp knife is a must for filleting the fish.

Dan's turn

Catching

Patience paid off! This is the 46 inch halibut that I caught.

Waiting

After rigging the lines, we waited.

Rigging the lines

Herring was used for bait to catch the halibut.

Charter Fishing Trip

We spent 11 hours on the 27 foot Martie Kay Charter Fishing Boat. The 2 & 1/2 hours getting to the fishing area were spent enjoying the beautiful snow-capped Chugach Mountains, watching the playful sea otters, seals, puffins, and whales. Our guide for the day was Sandy.

Fire Hydrants

They were all numbered to help identify the hydrant locations during the snowy months. More than 300 inches of snow is measured annually in the city. We were there in early June and noticed a couple of piles of snow in a remote parking lot.

Valdez, Alaska

We spent three days in this picturesque fishing community. Exploring the area on our bikes gave us a clear idea of life in Valdez.

Boats

The beautiful snow-capped mountains surround this area.

Fishing

Home Spit is a popular fishing spot for the locals.

Farmers Market

Dan is munching on a bagel, watching the shoppers, and listening to the bluegrass music at the local Farmers Market. Can you find him?

Interesting Bike

This colorful bookstore owner is the proud owner of the bike.

Cute Moose

On our way to the Farmer's Market, we stopped at this store to inspect the wooden creatures.

Starfish

As we were walking along the shore, we glanced down and noticed this lovely starfish. What a surprise!

Boardwalk

Notice the beautiful mountains in the background. What a lovely place to shop! This boardwalk had typical tourist type shops.

Tree

Look carefully at this tree on Home Spit.

Salty Dawg Saloon

Dollar bills and bills from other countries were everywhere-up on the ceiling on the walls and on the door in this saloon. It was too crowded and smoky for us to enjoy a cool one.
