Charter Fishing Trip
We spent 11 hours on the 27 foot Martie Kay Charter Fishing Boat. The 2 & 1/2 hours getting to the fishing area were spent enjoying the beautiful snow-capped Chugach Mountains, watching the playful sea otters, seals, puffins, and whales. Our guide for the day was Sandy.

Fire Hydrants
They were all numbered to help identify the hydrant locations during the snowy months. More than 300 inches of snow is measured annually in the city. We were there in early June and noticed a couple of piles of snow in a remote parking lot.

Valdez, Alaska
We spent three days in this picturesque fishing community. Exploring the area on our bikes gave us a clear idea of life in Valdez.

Farmers Market
Dan is munching on a bagel, watching the shoppers, and listening to the bluegrass music at the local Farmers Market. Can you find him?

As we were walking along the shore, we glanced down and noticed this lovely starfish. What a surprise!

Boardwalk
Notice the beautiful mountains in the background. What a lovely place to shop! This boardwalk had typical tourist type shops.

Salty Dawg Saloon
Dollar bills and bills from other countries were everywhere-up on the ceiling on the walls and on the door in this saloon. It was too crowded and smoky for us to enjoy a cool one.

Breakfast
Dan is enjoying a chai and a scone at the colorful Two Sisters Bakery in Homer, AK. The two little girls were fun to watch. This bakery was a delightful stop on our bike ride around the area.

Testing
As you may have noticed the pictures on our blog have 'disappeared.' It appears that there are a number of other people with the same problem and we hope the Blogspot people are working on it.
This is a test page to see if we can upload pictures again.

Tour
We chose to take the Major Marine Tour which cruised the Prince William Sound. A Chugach Forest ranger along with the ship’s captain helped us spot wildlife and told us interesting facts about the area. The highlight of the trip with seeing and hearing the massive glaciers groan, crack and calve.

Whittier, AK
After driving through a one way tunnel that is shared with the railroad, we drove into a small, delightful fishing village, Whittier, located on Prince William Sound, southeast of Anchorage. One of the quaint shops has pet caribou that the tourists can feed.

Mt. McKinley
We saw it! The Athabascan Indians of the region called called it Denali, “the High One,“ referring to Mt. McKinley. It is North America’s highest mountain (20,320 feet) and summer’s often overcast or rainy weather frequently obscures the mountain, allowing visitors only about a 30 to 40% chance of seeing it.
