Crib update

Yesterday Zac came over and helped Jer and Dan work on the crib. Soon it will be ready to put together. There has been lots of measuring, cutting, sanding, gluing, and laughing while working on this project.

Gus and Nancy Heismann celebrated their 45th anniversary on August 8, 2008.

We took Irv and Lenore to see Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater , where concerts are held.

Sign

Dan put up this sign in our yard to help our friends, Irv and Lenore Gerling who live in Ohio, find our home. Dan and Irv were in the Navy together. This uniform was one that Dan wore while in the service.

Our backyard is full of sunflowers, all volunteers from last year's flowers.

Red Water

This is the country of red water due to the soil conditions. We were told to run the pump for 30 minutes and then stop for 2 hours to give the pump a rest. This needs to be done to get rid of all the red sediment.

We hired Rick's Pump Service to install a pump for our well. First, the old well head was removed.

Wes, the nice young man from Rick's Pump Service, used a mirror to check on water down in the well. The shinny reflection caught in the mirror means WATER.

We are enjoying watching the hummingbirds right outside the window of our motor home. At one point there were six hummers getting some of that red juice.

Trench for the Foundation

Dan has dug most of the trench for the foundation using the Bobcat. It is 3' deep and 3' wide with the footers being 4' deep. The total area measures 30' X 40'. That's a lot of digging.

More Tools

Dan and his Bobcat - the ear protection is to keep the pesky no-see-ums out of the ears. Ugh! The string and pipe are for keeping track of the corners.

After moving the RV closer to the "juice," Dan pulled out the big orange extension cord which had belonged to his parents. Thanks, Mom and Dad.

Copper Wire

After we filled in the hole, Dan attached the copper wire to the ground rods. Notice the wheelbarrow in the background. It contains cactus that I've been digging up. On the handle of the wheelbarrow is my tape recorder that has books on tape that provides me entertainment while I dig.

Step Two

Aquila installed a curved PVC pipe which was attached to the 3" pipe we 'discovered' in the ground, through which the electrical wires will be pulled.
We attached the gray metal box that our electrician gave us to 2 posts and placed it into the hole which had been dug. Dan is taking a break from pounding one of two 6 foot copper-coated ground rods into the ground.

Getting Ready for Electricity

Step one: We first had to find the end of the 3" pipe that Aquila, the local electric company, installed below ground from the green transformer box. The grey pipe sticking up gives us the location of the 3" pipe that is about 48" below ground.
Dan is in the hole that we dug. Finally we had success.

The three boys spent some time sanding and cutting on the crib.

First Cut

Jeremy and Dan are making a crib for Jeremy and Stephanie's baby, due October 15th. They are using maple wood for this project.

Nic and Nicole Vuxinic

Matt & Rosie Vuxinic, good friends, had a party honoring their son, Nic. Our families used to go camping together at Glendo Reservoir in Wyoming. It was wonderful seeing Nic again and meeting his lovely wife, Nicole. They are now in Florida where Nicole is a pediatric surgeon and Nic is a chef.
