Water tank

We will have to haul water since the water in the well has a high amount of uranium. This tank will hold 450 gallons of water.

Zac's New Car

Visitors

Gus & Nancy stopped to see us for a couple of days on their way home from their trip to OH. Zac drove down for the day. Great to see family.

Walls in ONE day

First SIPS panel went up at about 11 this morning and all of the walls were up by about 6:30 tonight. There were four guys working on this and it was like watching a building ballet. Tomorrow they will start the framing on the inside of the house.

The work has begun

First the framers measured the foundation to check dimensions and squareness. Next a transit was used to check to see if it is level. The sill seal (blue stuff) was put down and then a board was placed on top.

Panels have arrived

They are finally here! The framer unloaded the SIP panels and arranged them around the foundation. Now things will start to happen.

VOC

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado is a statewide nonprofit volunteer organization whose mission is to motivate and enable citizens to become active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources. What a rewarding experience. These are some of the supplies that were used on the Saturday workday in which I participated. VOC is very organized.

We performed maintenance on the Marsh Quarry’s trails that were first built by VOC in 1996. The Quarry, which is located about 5 miles south of where we live, has produced the largest number of vertebrate type specimens of any single Morrison formation dinosaur locality. We also celebrated the First Annual Fossil Day with the Bureau of Land Management that manages the quarry.

Noah came to play

Rocks, rocks, rocks. Noah sure liked Grandpa's Rock Playground at Dilley.

Making Cookies

Aunt Jennie and Noah baked chocolate chip cookies. The "flour storm" along with dumping in the ingredients made for a fun experience. Eating was the best part. Yum!

Colorful Colorado

We are so lucky to live in Colorado. After hiking to the arch, we went down the road a bit and found a rocky playground.

Hiking

I've joined a hiking club here in Canon City. On the way to hike up to see St. Charles Arch near San Isabel Lake, we saw this family of sheep on the side of the road.

Garden Park School

On October 2nd, we gathered at the Garden Park School, a 1895 schoolhouse, for the second annual open house. Friends of Garden Park School are raising money to match funds as required by the Colorado Historical Society and State Historic Fund.

Helen Shoemaker, a native of the area, attended the school 80 years ago and even taught school here one year. She's an active cattle ranch owner in the area.

Ohio Heismanns

It was wonderful seeing more of our family in Ohio. Dan & his brother, Carl, enjoyed playing golf, even in the rain.

More Heismanns

We sure enjoyed our time with Aunt Helen, Kenn, his wife, Cindy, and their son Walter. Thanks for the yummy cookies, Walter.

Kentucky Farm

On our way to Ohio, we stopped in Kentucky at the Flying H Angus farm to visit cousin Kenn Heismann and his family. They own 2 bulls, 30 cows and 31 calves.

Jeff, Stephanie, and Drew came to see us Sunday afternoon. Jeff, our nephew, is Dick's son. The last time we saw them was about 6 years ago in MO at a Thanksgiving family reunion.

We're visiting Dan's brother, Dick, and his wife Sandy. They live in Henderson, TN and are also building a house. Look at all of those angles in their attic!

Fun at the Park

Last week Noah and I took a walk to the neighborhood park in Golden.
