Old Works

This world class golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, was built to cleanup and redevelop the Anaconda Old Works Smelter site. Dan golfed this site while we were in this part of MT. The unique black sand traps (made from ground up slag from the smelter), made it easy to spot the golf ball.

Camping with the Heismanns

Wildlife

Fish

Dan had all of the luck on this fishing day.

Fishing, Day 2

Preparing to catch the big one.

Lunch

Tailgate Lunch
Fish score: Dan 3, Gus 0, Karen 0. There is always tomorrow.

It was a beautiful fall day in Montana.

Black Bear

While looking for good fishing spots, we discovered a black bear looking for berries. We were glad to be in the truck at the time.

Brothers

We met Gus and Nancy at the Beavertail Hill State Park, between Deer Lodge and Anaconda MT. Fishing was the sport of the day. The brothers bought a 10 day license and have been fishing, fishing, fishing.

Cute Kids

Entertainment at the Smiths included the 3 year old, Hamish, and #17, Miss Chloe, the 6 year old.

Missoula

Spending the day with the "Missoula Gang" was such fun. Dan and Dave and Mike Smith played golf while Michelle and I took the kids to soccer practice. Lori Reed and "brown eyed" Beth joined us for pizza at Dave and Michelle's in the evening.

Upstairs

Sweet seating awaits those with a sweet tooth. This cute frog welcomes the visitor who ventures upstairs.

Guilt Free Zone

Philipsburg, MT is home of the Sweet Palace, where all kinds of guilt free goodies are for sale.

Smelting Pot

Anaconda was founded in 1883 by Marcus Daly, one of the Copper Kings. This smelting pot was a welcome site at the entrance to Anaconda. The town was a melting pot of immigrants chasing the American dream. The Anaconda Copper Mining Company became the world’s largest supplier of copper.

Street Lights

These unique street lights are in the downtown and residential areas in Anaconda.

Anaconda, MT

The impressive Deer Creek County Building is located at the end of Main Street. Sunday nights are "Quad Nights" ($4.00 per person) at the local Washoe Theatre. It is listed in the National Register of Historical Places, and ranked by the Smithsonian as one of the five most beautiful theatres in America. The fifteen minute intermission gave us time to gaze at the walls and ceiling and wonder how they were constructed.

Wheat Montana

After leaving Bozeman, we stopped at Wheat Montana, which is right on I90. Our favorite kind of bread that they make is the Healthyloaf Seedlover. Yum

Art

Loved seeing Sharon's art and her studio.

Relaxing

After an exhilarating hike up Peetes hill, we relaxed on Sharon and Ralph's back porch.

Bozeman Sculptures

These sculptures are located near the library and we sure had fun commenting on them on our way to the park to hike. Can you tell which one is titled "Wish"?

Hike

While we were in Bozeman, visiting cousin Sharon and Ralph, we took a hike in Burke Park overlooking the town. What a breathtaking area.

Beartooth Highway

This highway took 4 years to build and was the only road constructed under the Park Approach Act, which funded the construction of scenic routes to the country's national parks through federally owned land.
